What is Hero Weaver?
There are no classes. Instead, every character is built from one shared list of talents, bought with Talent Points. A wizard is just someone who bought wizard things. Your fighter can pick a lock, your healer can fire a musket — if you can pay for it and explain where it came from, you can have it.
Quick start — six steps
1. On the Build tab: fill in your name, species, and level (your DM sets the power level).
2. Set your ability scores — pick a method at the top (Point Buy is the default), then place your +2/+1 bonuses.
3. Choose one physical and one mental save, and your three background skills.
4. Spend your points in the talent list: search, filter by chapter, click a name to read what it does, press + to buy. The bar at the top always shows what you have left.
5. On the Character tab: pick your armor and name your weapons — attack numbers appear automatically under Actions.
6. Add flavor on the Background tab, and track HP during play on the Session tab.
The golden rule
Every purchase must answer one question: "Where does this come from?" A teacher, a bloodline, a bargain, years of practice. The question is never "is this allowed?" — a good answer creates story, and that is the point. Some talents (marked in the book) need DM approval before you buy them.
Speed-weaving a character
At the top of the Talents card, three buttons: Start from scratch (build every purchase yourself), or Pre-select — pick a Species, Background, and Class from a dropdown, and the system buys a sensible starting kit for you in one click. Classic uses only genuine 2024 PHB content; Tailored pulls from Cabrinea's own pirate-flavored options.
Pre-selects are a starting point, not a finished sheet — check the budget bar afterward. A woven total that lands a point or two over or under is normal, not a mistake; trim a purchase or ask your DM to raise the power level.
How points work
You get a grant of points at level 1 (19 on Standard) and more at each level — with big jumps at level 3 and level 5. That is where the expensive signature talents live: Action Surge, Divine Smite, Extra Attack, higher spell Circles.
Unspent points carry over. Saving up for a big purchase is smart, not wasteful.
Purchases are permanent. Talents are lived history — there are no refunds, so read before you buy.
Reading a talent
Each entry shows its price and any requirements. A lvl 3+ tag means it unlocks at that level. Greyed-out talents tell you why they are locked — missing level, a required talent, or a conflict (a d12 body and a caster's focus don't mix).
Some talents can be bought more than once (Sneak Attack ranks, Darkvision). The − button removes a purchase while you are still building.
Your Profile
The Profile tab shows a rough leaning across four areas — Hand, Mind, Heart, Spirit — worked out live from what you've actually bought. It's not a label or a class in disguise: the same class can lean completely different ways depending on species and background. Nothing to fill in here, just something to notice.
Good to know
Your character autosaves in this browser — and for real safety, press Save to file (Session tab) after each session. The downloaded file is your character: keep it, send it, load it on any device with Load from file. (On iPhone/iPad, saved files land in the Files app.)
Building with an AI assistant off-site? The Advanced field (bottom of the Session tab) accepts raw character JSON pasted in directly — paste and press Import.
The red Reset button deletes everything — it will ask first.
When in doubt: ask your DM. The system is built for the conversation.
